there’s an equation going around as a poll on facebook that’s
6÷2(1+2)=?
And the available choices for answers are 1 and 9.
9 has over 900k votes, while 1 has only 681k.
But wouldn’t 1 be the right answer?
6÷2(1+2)=x
6÷2(3)=x
6÷6=x
1=x
Like how do you even get that wrong? Or am…
I think the answer should be 1….but apparently when people put it in calculators it says 9.
I think that maybe its been looked at from a point of like…distributing the 6/2. Which really just makes it 3*3…but that still disregards order of operations. :-/ I DONT KNOW. -head explodes-
uhmm i got 1, using the same method you did. sorry i’m not much help :( lol
Okay, people. The answer *is* 1. The reason people putting it into calculators get 9 is because if you just do it from left to right, the answer is 9. 6/2x1+2=9. But…remember order of operations? PEMDAS: parentheses, exponents, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction. Therefore, you do what’s in the parentheses first: 1+2=3. Then you multiply that by the value distributed to it: 3x2=6. Then divide 6 by that: it’s 1. Tadaaaaaa, magic math!
I think it’s 9 because (1 2)=3 obviously but then since division comes before multiplication 6/2(3)=(6/2)(3)=(3)(3)=9 and my sis agrees and she’s in algebra. So that’s what I believe it to be.
My followers better all reblog this…
there should be more notes
Usually, the “Reblog if you” things are too gimmickey for me to get behind, but this is a cause I will always support.
